August 2, 1947 - January 11, 2019
Born in Solarino, Sicily
Resided in Hawthorne, NJ

Biondo, Salvatore, 71 of Hawthorne, NJ passed away on Friday, January 11th surrounded by his family.

Sal was born in Solarino, Sicily on August 2, 1947. He attended Our Lady of Lourdes in Paterson and was a graduate of Passaic County Technical Institute. While attending Passaic County Technical Institute, he worked part time at Square Deal market in Paterson. At age 17, he bought the business and renamed it Biondo Brothers, which he owned and operated until 1998. At that point, Sal was not ready to retire yet. His love of people and produce brought him to the Market Basket in Franklin Lakes, where he worked as a produce buyer. You would often find him kissing babies, handing out cookies, and bagging fruits and vegetables for his favorite customers. He had a smile that lit up the room, and made friends in the produce business and wherever else he went. But what he treasured most of all was his family. He lived for his family, and was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was an extremely generous, compassionate man who always put the needs of others above his own. To know Sal was to love Sal.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Carolyn and his three children, his daughter Tina Sherry of Wayne, his son Salvatore Biondo and his wife Trish of Wayne, his son Anthony Biondo and his wife Karen of Hawthorne, and his 4 grandchildren Alyssa, Nicholas, Adriana, and Milania. He is also survived by his brothers, Michael Biondo of North Carolina, Carmen Biondo of Hawthorne, and Sebastian Biondo of Elmwood Park.

Sal was a lifetime parishioner of St. Anthony's Church.

Funeral will depart at 9am on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 from the Browning-Forshay Funeral Home, 557 Lafayette Ave., Hawthorne, NJ 07506, for a 9:30 am funeral mass at St. Anthony R.C.
