Baliman, Elizabeth “Bette” (nee: Monda), age 85, of Hawthorne, on Wednesday, April 11, 2018. Born and raised in Paterson, Bette had lived in Hawthorne since 1956. She was an active parishioner of St. Anthony R.C. Church in Hawthorne and worked as a preschool teacher’s aide at St. Anthony School for many years. Bette was a member of the Rosary Society and was the leader of the Special Friends of St. Anthony’s. She had volunteered at the St. Anthony Feast since it began and was a fixture at the French fry stand. Bette was also a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader had run the school milk program for 60 years. As a recess aide, she made sure that each and every child was able to jump rope. Recently Bette was given the Humanitarian Award by the St. Anthony Holy Name Society recognizing her many years of service.
Bette was the beloved wife of James Baliman. Loving mother of Deborah Standard and her husband David of Woodland Park, James J. Baliman and his wife Debbie Giella of Stow, OH and Mary Kubisky and her husband Joseph of Lincoln Park. Dear grandmother of Jason Baliman and his wife Courtney, Dianna Standard and her partner Gary Van Voorhis, Roxanne Baliman and Denise Standard. Dearest great-grandmother of Charlie, Tori, Seth, Jason, Jake, Luke and Cheyenne. Bette is predeceased by her brother Anthony Monda. She is also survived by her grand-pets, Raegan, Patsy and Wednesday.
Funeral will depart at 9am on Saturday, April 14, 2018 from the Browning-Forshay Funeral Home, 557 Lafayette Ave., Hawthorne for a 9:30 am funeral mass at St. Anthony R.C. Church, Hawthorne. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Paterson. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9pm.
