Doris Adeline Blasberg-Kievit, age 89, of Forked River, NJ passed away peacefully at home on July 6, 2019. She was born in Hawthorne, NJ on October 8, 1929, to the late William and Margaret Blasberg and was pre-deceased by her husband of 58 years, Aaron Kievit.
Aaron and Doris made Hawthorne their home where they raised both of their children. They moved to Forked River in 1987. Doris graduated from Hawthorne High School and attended Hollins College in Virginia. She was always active in the Hawthorne community as a member of the Eastern Star and the Hawthorne Board of Education. Doris was well known at Meyers Agency of Hawthorne Chevrolet where she ran the insurance department and entertained on the organ during new model year releases. However, her deepest commitment was to the Hawthorne Muchachos Drum and Bugle Corps where she served in many capacities on the Ladies Auxillary and was a mother figure who could never do enough for the young members of the corps. One could always find Doris scheming ways to raise money for the corps and then putting her schemes into action. In her spare time, both early and later in life, Miami Beach, Florida was a place she loved calling her second home. But, Doris’s love of travel didn’t stop there. She traveled the world, took that love and turned it into a career in the travel business working as a travel consultant for Glen Rock Travel, JC Penney’s travel division in NYC and ultimately for the Prudential Insurance Company’s travel division, retiring September 1993. Doris was a positive force in every aspect of her life and the lives she touched.
She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Kievit of Forked River, NJ and his fiancee Rena Isbin of New York City, NY, her daughter Deborah Peel and husband Jerry of Millsboro, Delaware, her brother Donald Blasberg and wife Arlene of Summerville, South Carolina, her grandson David Peel and wife Natalie of Towaco, NJ, her granddaughter Erica Peel and husband Jason Sudduth of Haddonfield, NJ, three great granddaughters Avery Sudduth, Lilah Peel, Alyse Peel and two nephews Craig Blasberg and Michael Blasberg.
A service celebrating Doris’s life will be held at Browning and Forshay Funeral Home in Hawthorne on Monday, July 15, 2019 at 6:30pm. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00-7:00pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Michael J. Fox Parkinson’s Foundation, michaeljfox.org.
